Meetings info 2014/2015

Wednesday 15th October 2014
Our first meeting is our AGM which will be a short affair. This is then followed by a talk on the History and Practicalities of Bee Keeping.
The keeping pf bees is a centuries old and world wide tradition. This talk is very relevant as our bee population is troubling many keepers and growers who rely on the bees for pollination.

Wednesday 19th November 2014
We will all know of Parravani's ice cream and most will have sampled it at some time. The business was founded in this area and is still going today.
What is less known is that Pararravani's was based in The Street at Blundeston for a while before WW2. Paul Parravani will tell us about the family history and more about ice cream making in East anglia.

Wednesday 18th March 2015
This evening will be our buffet evening which all are invited. Note this is now in March and not February as previous years in hope of better weather for all to attend.
The speaker will be David Bray  who will with slides and artefacts remind us of this area's seafaring traditions with a talk of Nautical Nostalgia.

MEETING DETAILS 2013/2014

Wednesday 16th October

Kevin will tell us something about the story of Gorleston Pavilion over the years and will give us, no doubt, a reminder of some of the famous names that have performed there.  With a history dating back to 1901 the Pavilion is an important, though perhaps under-rated, part of the Gorleston scene and it will be interesting to learn more about it.
      COMMENT
This was a great evening with much valuable and interesting information given by both Kevin Lynch and Alex Youngs, especially on the new charity to help with the Pavilion Theatre Restoration fund

Wednesday 13th November

The subject of tonight’s talk is an appropriate one for us living, as we do, in a village with farm land all around.  None of us can be unaware of the vast changes that have taken place in agriculture and farming techniques over the years and it will be very interesting to hear the story from those still in the front line of farming.

Wednesday 12th February 2014
This is the first meeting in 2014 and is our buffet evening when all are invited. Don has long had contact with the village and some may remember him from many years ago living with his family in a converted railway carriage by the A12. Don will be speaking on Two Victorian Village Sagas - the Fristons and the school at Corton in the 1800's
Wednesday 12th March
Ivan is one of the best known of several serious historians of Lowestoft and, as we know from his past visits to talk to us, he is an interesting and informative speaker and it is always a pleasure to welcome him back.
Tonight Ivan will look back in History of Oulton over the years and up to the present day, which he will no doubt have researched with his usual thoroughness.
